came into my hospital room at the start of her shift and said to me, “You weren’t supposed to be like this
today,” to which I responded, “Like what?” “Pregnant,” she said. Through tears I
begged her “Help me then!”

After the night I had, I was ready for anything to be done
to get this baby out. I had been checked into the hospital in active labor since 10:30 the morning
before. I was frustrated and there weren’t any signs of stopping. My body wasn’t
taking well to this delivery.

Highlights of the
day/night before:

The nurse had quietly told my mom that she could get
me to 4cm because my cervix was so soft, but it’s too painful. After the hour had elapsed, she checked to see if I was dilated again and she moved me to 4cm upon (I’m
assuming) my mother’s head nod. OW! Holy freakin’ cow. That hurt, but glad I’m staying.

*I was kind of hoping that I would be let out of the hospital to walk

severe hip pain that came with each contraction. Ugh! I felt like my hip was breaking. I asked the nurse through

Seriously, all I want is my baby.

position called the “Fire Hydrant” which, like it sounds, looks like I’m a dog
peeing on a fire hydrant. Classy. While moving me, it hurt so bad (I didn’t know
I could make that much noise!) that she stopped moving me and decided to put me back in the last position I was in, where I was at least slightly (but only slightly!)comfortable, to suffer with my husband and mother.

surgeon who said if I haven’t made any progress by 7:00a I will be prepped for
surgery. (Which I didn’t want… I prayed that I wouldn’t have to, I don’t want to
go under the knife!)

Now we’re back.

After my favorite nurse came in and said I wasn’t supposed to
be pregnant on Thursday morning, I told her I'd been informed that I would be prepped for surgery at 7:15a
(it was 5 ‘til 7a). She assured me that “that’s not going to happen. I’m pushing it
back, we’re doing Fire Hydrant!” You can imagine my excitement. Surgery
impending, hip pain still, and still no baby.

She, along with 2 others, forced
me into Fire Hydrant. Holy relief, Batman. Moving to this position was painful, but I felt so good after getting my leg
hiked up, in silence I might add. I’d learned after 7 hours to deal with the discomfort
in a more dignified manner, i.e. I didn’t yell in agony.

I fell asleep for an hour and a half and when I woke that
pushy-thank-God-for-her nurse said, “You are at 10cm!” Saved! No surgery.

It was happening.......no wait… not yet!...... I’m not ready!...................

I saw her come out and be held up by the doctor and corpsman

Things of note:

A few nurses and doctors concluded the hip pain I
experienced during labor and delivery was caused by Corinne LITERALLY getting
on my nerves....she was sitting on them! (something I plan to keep in my back pocket to remind her of anytime, throughout the REST OF MY LIFE, that she accuses me of getting on HER nerves!) Because of her position, my nerves were being pinched/damaged, and this is why Fire Hydrant worked...it made her move!

But there's more.....while in the hospital, recovering from labor, my epidural
wore off and I started to feel normal! The numbness in my leg from the nerve
damage started to wear off and I thought it was going away, so I got a
little more confident in walking around (I’d almost fallen 2x before this. Don’t
worry I was not holding the baby!) Things seemed to be going well.

Unfortunately, however, I got a little too
confident. I had been walking around our hospital room, picking up,
snacking, watching the babe in the jaundice light, talking to Michael… and I
thought I should go to the restroom. So I did...and I fell...AND I FRACTURED MY FOOT. Are you kidding?! There I was, lying on the bathroom floor with nerve
damage, and now a fractured foot? It’s laughable.

We had about 2 days in the hospital because
they needed to make my baby less yellow, so we had some time to laugh about the
drama of the past few days. I pray that by the time I have another baby my body will
know what to do, because clearly it’s an idiot.

All that to say, I left the hospital in a wheelchair, physical
therapy instructions in hand, toting a fractured foot and a bum knee with nerve damage......

All I wanted was a baby.

Go ahead, laugh it’s ok.

Our kitchen. I’m
attempting to clear the counters of the ever growing pile of trash,
tools, or what have you and putting things in the pantry. Love the
pantry. During the unpacking chaos, stuff from boxes marked “kitchen”
were haphazardly grouped by likeness and therefore it needs more
organization. {Enter lizard} I’m placing a bowl in the pantry from the
counter as a teeny orangish lizard crawls lightening fast down the back
corner. {insert freakout here}
MICHAEL: (Ever so calmly does he say) “Welcome to Florida.”

EMILY: “Are you going to kill it?”

MICHAEL: “That could get messy.”

EMILY: “Ew. That's true. Outside?”

MICHAEL: “Hand me some Tupperware, yes we will put him outside.”

EMILY: (handing over Tupperware) “Is he poisonous?”

MICHAEL: “We aren’t gonna find out. Now the lid please.”

EMILY: (handing over lid) “Do you suppose he has a family out there?”

MICHAEL: “They are probably all waiting for him. (a beat) I can’t find him.”

(a few minutes of moving around the pantry items)

MICHAEL: (talking to lizard who we have now named) “Come on little guy.”

EMILY: “I just saw him, there he is!”

MICHAEL: (after a minute of coaxing him into Tupperware) “Got him.”

EMILY: (relieved he didn’t get poisoned) “Phew.”
<strike> </strike>

After
this we ran errands and the lizard (we named him Bet) came with us...
we weren’t sure where to put him. We ended up keeping him the whole day,
and found another lizard on the back porch that evening (inside the
screen) and so we trapped it too. Much the same way. We named this one
Midler. We think this lizard was part of the family awaiting Bet’s
return to the wild.

About 30 minutes of watching them
and admiring the details on their weird looking little bodies we threw
them far into the woods behind our backyard. Yes, we have woods.

Goodbye
Bet, Goodbye Midler, this one was “for the boys” ;) And thank you Jesus
for little moments, details, and screened in porches... not that they
matter.
Even with my feverish attempts at prevention. (new adventures are good. new adventures are good. new adventures are good.) We’re officially living in sunny Florida. For the last few nights as more things are unwrapped, and we make a mediocre effort of finding a place for it... we find ourselves asking questions like,

“How do we have so much stuff?” and “Will the counter tops ever be clear?”

To answer those questions: I have a problem with shopping, and Michael has a problem with throwing things out. And yes, the counter tops will one day be clear, if only for a fleeting moment.

A fleeting moment of joy tonight turned into this post. I guess it didn’t fleet so much as it did linger. Which is good. I think I'm gonna like it here. ---> As you may remember from one of my first posts I was leery about starting a blog just because so infrequently do interesting things happen to us. It seems that has changed! During the last month we have said goodbye to our sweet life in Oklahoma, set out on a grand voyage, and safely arrived in Florida! During these past 20-some days we’ve encountered family, friends, dirt, weirdos, bugs, and yes... lizards. We will elaborate on that later ;)

Please by all means, come visit.

My mom says, “You find out how many friends you have when you live by the beach.” To which I followed up with: “Or how many friends you don’t have living in Oklahoma." Sorry Oklahoma, we love you.

Warmly, (literally)
The Leary's are moving to Florida. We got our orders. We shall be reporting in May to Whiting NAS! Congratulations, good thoughts, and air hugs are accepted via email, snail mail, and facebook.

Next weekend Michael and I (+puppies) are taking a mini trip down to Pensacola to take a look at the area, some homes and you know... go to the beach and eat some good food. Good thoughts and prayers are appreciated as we need to find a house quickly, need it to be just what we want... close to the beach, not too far from base, etc etc.

I'm going crazy trying to gather all my to-do lists that I've written over the past couple weeks into one daunting list. (there are a lot of little lists) I'm weary of not be able to get it all done the way I want it, having a garage sale, coordinating movers, company, various events, and finally a road trip.

You would think that this was my dream come true because I'm always wanting something to run more efficeiently, and be uber organized... but this whole thing is so unorganized at this point its making my hair fall out.

Ok, not that dramatic, but I'm not having fun yet. Maybe when we HAVE a place to live. Fingers, toes, arms, legs, ponytails crossed.

Any tips for military moves???

Here is to our next adventure.

Right now... we're at the "where to next?" stage on the military life timeline. It's the ever looming uncertainty that's unfortunate. I'm sure other military wives could vouch for that. For us this stage means we could go, or stay. For whatever May 2013 hold for us, I plan to get organized, and I hope to start now. We're open to moving, even though it would mean leaving our wonderful friends here but we're hopeful about what God has in store for us!

So, I've strapped myself into an organizing fiesta. Michael has never been more THRILLED. For those of you who don't know, that was sarcasm.

During these next 214 days (give or take a few for rest & Holidays, etc) I hope to have our things tidy so that moving won't be as big of a deal as its reputation lets on. I'm not naive. I know it'll be a big job no matter what; we've collected much over the past 3 years! I'd love to make it a teensy bit easier on us when / if the time comes. Plus, if we don't end up packin' up & headin' out, we'll have a newly purged & organized house! Its a win-win. Little things to do here & there, throwing stuff out, cleaning stuff, I can't wait! I will win my made up game. Don't judge me.

This will primarily be my project / game as throwing things away is one of my #favoritepasttimes. However, Michael will help when needed, better yet, when he's available. I think he secretly likes it too. Secretly. Shh.

Sittin. Waitin. Wishin.
-QueenLearUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7926142519222112143.post-25831967902588977422012-10-24T11:44:00.002-07:002012-10-24T11:44:38.067-07:00A Frog & a Turtle. The other night we were laying in bed, which means my butt is comfortably placed in the huge indent that is, where I always lay. (I'll tell Michael this week that we need to rotate the mattress) Anyhow, you know how a ladie's mind works when we can't fall asleep...we start thinking about what we have to do tomorrow, something we saw on Pinterest, adding things to our grocery list, etc. I was tired, but at this point I was all jazzed about tomorrow.

So, I asked Michael if he was still awake.

ME: Michael, are you still awake?
MICHAEL: (a sluggish yes)
ME: Ugh, I can't fall asleep...
MICHAEL: (sleep noises)
ME: Will you tell me a story? (the benefits of this were two-fold, a good idea to get me to sleep by having my mind on something else, plus it might help me feel young again)
MICHAEL: Uh.... (stirring) What about?
ME: A turtle and a frog.
MICHAEL: (waits a few seconds and starts the story)

THE STORY
Once upon a time there was Frog, and a Turtle, they were best buds. They were always hanging out and one day Turtle, who was slow at many things, leans over to his froggy pal and notices hes got warts. He says, "Dude, I don't think you're a frog. I think you're a toad." Frog is a little annoyed because no one likes being called out for something they can't help. He says, "No, dude I'm totally a frog, my mom told me I was." Turtle thinks a moment and explains in his sensitive manly manner, "You have warts all over your body."

The frog rolls his eyes, and walks away from his so-called friend, annoyed as you would expect. He needs to get this whole toad thing figured out for good. So, he goes to visit his friend Owl and he asks Owl, "Do you think I'm a frog or a toad?" Owl says, "Who." "Who? Me of course," said Frog. Owl cocks his head again and says, "Who." Frog, getting annoyed even more exclaims, "ME!" And he shakes his head as he walks away. Clearly that old Owl has lost his marbles.

After a bit Frog comes across his other friend, Deer. He rests a minute while she sips out of the stream, and finally asks the question. "Deer, do you think I'm a frog or a toad?" Deer says, "Oh dear," and sips along. "No. I'm asking you Deer, do you think I'm a frog or a toad?" Then Deer watched Frog as he waits for the answer. Waiting. Waiting. Finally, Frog says "NO, you're the deer, am I a frog or a toad?" "Oh dear," says Deer, utterly confused. "Yea, you're a real dear!" Frog yells sarcastically as she gallops into the woods.

Frog may not have as many friends as he thinks. And I guess he'll never know who he really is, thanks a lot, Turtle.

I was cracking up at the nonsense that befell my earrios that night. I slept well though thanks to this little diddy. I think we may have to alter the message if it ever becomes a children's book.

Thanks for a husband who doesn't know when he's being funny.
I found it in a little online shop called ebay - maybe you have heard of it? I bought it offline for CHEAP last summer after seeing it in a little shop.

Its a 5 year memory book.
The pages are the days.
And all the years are also on the page.

So, by the end of the year there should be a line on each page... then you go back to the beginning for the next year.

We have kept up with it so far... and if we can keep it up for 5 years, (fingers crossed) I think it will be just stupendous. These are the years that we may move, have babies, etc. It will be cute to see after 5 years what we did on all the 5 different January 1sts, February 14ths, & so on. :)

I hope I hope we can keep up with it. Its easy when you can write one line before bed instead of a journal page. Could be easier to do it when there is a babe around... one line might be all I can muster.

Heres hopin.

[Not so] Sadly... we did NOT follow through with the diet as mentioned here. Our somewhat preposterous summary listed below. And no, even though I was in a state of "hanger" unlike any I'd ever experienced before... I didn't kill Michael. He is still with us. :)

Day 1: We stuffed our faces full of melon and strawberries and other fruits. Yummy day, but along with drinking SO much water, it was torture. This was a breeze for Michael... he got to eat lots of pineapple!

Day 2: Got to eat a potato for breakfast this morning. Was just superb after all the sweetness yesterday. Cooked up some good veggies in the evening, and snacked on carrots and cucumbers during the day. Veggie day was the easiest for me. Michael wanted to die.

Day 3: We did this day with flying colors! #1000coolpointsforus!

Day 4: Each of us ate at least 1 banana today, and I love milk, so I did drink milk today. We did not keep to the diets specifics. We suck, we have no willpower when it comes to food. NONE.

Day 5: We thought the rules on this day were too crazy. Oops. Plus Michael had a flight and got to eat a pulled pork sammich. So I cheated too. I think this was the day we both threw in the towel. Should I even still be writing this? #minus1000coolpoints

Day 6: We did eat beef & veggies today. However, I had a dinner that evening and it would have been impolite to not eat what was in front of me. :) #100politepoints

Day 7: At this point we were both eating our veggies, (as directed) along with our other favorites. We have abandoned the diet.

DIET FAIL! BAHAHA!

This diet did help us though... we drink more water... we eat our veggies, and we have fruit in the house more often. Even before this diet I did drink milk like it was going out of style. Plus, I lost 3pounds, Michael lost 5. Ugh.

I took back the scale. I don't think it sends the right message.
Michael & I have both agreed to do this 7 day "cleanse/starve yourself" diet. Ala Pinterest. But we arent really starving ourselves. We eat as much as we want (of certain items) on certain days. But we drink so much water - we will be peeing constantly. Awesome.

Day 1: Fruit. You can eat as much fruit as you want. No bananas tho.
Day 2: Veggies. Unlimited. Must eat 1 potatoe specifically.
Day 3: Fruit & Veggies. No bananas, no potatoes.
Day 4: Bananas & Milk. Weird. Plus wonder soup if you care to consume it.
Day 5: 2 10oz portions of beef & 6 tomatoes. #whatthewhat?
Day 6: Beef & Veggies.
Day 7: Brown rice, Fruit juice, Veggies.

It basically is to reprogram your body to crave the things it needs. So, instead of craving a McDonalds cheeseburger, #mmmm I will crave the actual protein that my body needs from meat. Is there protein in mickydees meat?;) Or instead of throwing a few peanut m&ms down me gullet for sweets, I might pick up an orange, or a strawberry. See?

The diet says you can loose 10-17 pounds within the first week! Maybe, maybe not. Worth a shot - so we bought a scale and weighed ourselves, boy were we in for a surprise! OOh, neesh geet. *insert german accent here*

We also plan to take walks in the wonderful weather. Partly to have time to chat, and to keep our minds off queso, mac 'n' cheese, and on our fruit filled bellies! So, if I havent killed michael out of HANGRINESS. (the state of being so hungry you are angry) You will be reading a summary of how it went.

Before & after pictures aren't coming.

ANYWAY, I'm looking for a concealer to hide those "oh so embarassing, I'm too old for breakouts" breakouts, & of course the dreaded under eye circles that magically appear whether I get 2 or 12 hours of beauty sleep. Plus, since I've got Irish & English blood... I'm fair as a mo-fo. The flawless skin of those long lost Native American genes from yesteryear have been stamped right out of my family. Must be the Irish accents - Get'cha evra'time.

I got some good suggestions, most from drug stores & a couple others. I did a google search & came across this wonder: http://www.totalbeauty.com/content/gallery/p_best_concealers. I cant wait to try some. I like to go for the ones that are more consecrated, can use less, full coverage, & that lasts all day. I HATE REAPPLYING! Hate. So, I'm willing to pay a little extra. And by little I mean... $22 is my limit. I refuse to pay more unless its going to be on my face permanently.... #hmmidea

I've used:

Maybelline

Yellow & Nude Neutrogena (but i feel like I buy a lot cause it won't last)

Time Balm, more pricey, full coverage, doesn't last too long unless used with powder which contributes to the under eye circs.

Smashbox Photo Ready

What are you favorite make ups besides concealer? I love to try new things... #productjunkie
(always January) I am late on telling a few quick notes about the holidays here and in the lou. St. Lou. St. Louis. Saint LOUIE! #Youcanfindmeinstlouie.

We had a little dinner party here with a couple friends. I had a fun time decorating. loved loved loved my tree this year. Silver & gold, silver & gold.
Michael and I (yep-Michael and I!! he was home) drove into STL with wonderful weather, not a drop of rain, not a snowflake. We brought our coats, but hardly used em, and we had a great time with the family. *I hope one day, wherever we are... our families could meet in the middle and have the holiday - or go on a vacation or something.#isitwishfulthinking?

We were able to attend the annual cousin dinner this year! Grandma just loves it when we all are sitting around yelling at each other, drawing uni-brows on baby and the boys are throwing shoes. She just laughs, and laughs. We read the Christmas story, Grandma always tells a story about Grandpa that passed away, and has us all share a Christmas memory. A lovely time it twas.
Another exciting thing on Christmas morn was that there was this minor upset in town. Its called a water main break!!! Not a minor upset at all! WE HAD NO WATER ALMOST THE WHOLE DAY. Isn't it nice to rinse your face, and brush your teeth in the morning or wash your hands after picking something up off the floor or feeding the dogs? Every last one of us Burns-Leary's enjoyed opening gifts with sticky hands and rank breath. NAAsty [incorporate true St. Louisan accent here]. The water seriously didn't come back on until an hour before we were supposed to have dinner!
He likes to make me work for em. He has done this 2 of our 3 Christmases together, and he videotapes it.

Christmas 2009: I knew I was getting my bow ring from Zales, but I opened a couple other things and still it was nowhere, I figured it was in my stocking. Nope. Then Michael whips out the camera and points to the tree. He tells me I'm so close...

Christmas 2011: I had found this wonderful bag at the Coach store when in STL, so of course I sent a picture of it to Michael. It was WAY too much, but I figured if we waited we'd find it online for less. Now, this would be my ONLY gift if I were to get it. And Michael asked me multiple times if I wanted just the bag or other things. I said that we shouldn't spend the money and he said he sensed the disappointment in my voice. But I could wait, so we were good.

It came time to celebrate our Christmas together and I had 4 gifts under the tree. Opened my first gift.... empty box. Michael opens his super cool Penn State golf towel. I open my second gift...sex stuff, condoms. No thank you. (at this point I'm getting mad, saying things like "this Christmas blows" and "I'm taking your stuff back") Michael opens his super cool sweater, I open my second empty box. Michael proceeds to open his third and fourth gifts. He whips out the video camera. This is what happened....

I really didn't think he got the bag - he usually listens to me when I tell him things. :) I could get used to this. Looks like I'll have to!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7926142519222112143.post-91039669133912567762012-01-07T16:01:00.000-08:002012-01-07T16:04:08.253-08:00We resolve.Happy 2012 everyone! In addition to letting you know our new years resolutions, and thus making cyber-space keep us accountable... we are going to let you know how we have failed in resolutions this past year.

FAIL #1: I failed at my “1 book a month” resolution. By 1. ugh. (This is counting the books on tape I listened to on road trips.) This was NOT one of Michael's personal resolutions.

FAIL #2: One of our other resolutions last year was to work out. And... if I may be frank. I'm not the slight little lady I used to be. (even if you cant see it, or you say “Emily, no!” You would be wrong.) There are jiggles and shakes and areas that shouldn’t be hangin' around.

FAIL #3: We wanted to eat healthier. (Reference FAIL #2) We ate out. All. The. Time.

Now, after our fails, and in the spirit of the New year... there is hope for the Leary’s.

Our New Years Resolutions for 2012:

1. Read 1 book a month (I did it in 2010, lets keep at this one)
2. New recipe every 2 weeks. This I did for about 2-4 months, and this was a good one! This will tie in also to EAT OUT LESS, (we are limiting ourselves to 2x a week) and of course EAT HEALTHIER.
3. Exercise. I signed up via Groupon for a mix of weekly classes, with a friend so this will help me. Michael jogs already, he resolves to do this on a more reg basis.
4. No drinking soda. #canyoureallylose15pounds?
5. Craft more. Thank you for the invention of Pinterest. I can now feel even more crafty, and I have ideas out to wazoo. #craftlovepinboard
6. Shop more at consignment / resale shops / discount shops / & garage sales for certain items.
7. Tithe and give more to charity.
8. Be more in prayer for others, and in our quiet time more.
9. Save money wherever we can.
10.Take another beach vacation. #justpackyourswimsuit
11. Write our family mission statement. #Pinterest has great ideas on how to display.
12. Organize and purge everything. This will be my fave thing... throwing things out.
13. Deepen relationships.

What are YOUR resolutions? :)

Michael and I have been out of the blogging loop for a bit it would seem. We were definitely late to jump on the "what are you thankful for" bandwagon, and now its December 14. Holy friggin' crap, time flies. So, in an effort to get back into the blogisphere... here are some recent thoughts from the Leary household:

We can't believe its our 3rd Christmas together. Much less Christmas time at all. (we need to get it together and finish up shopping - only two more presents to buy!)

Emily should not use Orajel. Numbing one side of the pie hole, uncomfortable. Accidentally toungin' the injury = numb tongue = drool covered pillow in the A.M. Not sexy.

I need to remind Snazzylime not to take on more then 2 weddings that take place in December, for fear of losing it, and inevitably showing up to our holiday parties giftless. (but Holiday cards, bring it! Had lots this year!)

Don't buy jackets with fake pockets. Super annoying.

I need at least 7 hours of sleep to function. Sometimes I get more. I'm not ready for a child.

Every Christmas tree needs some bling. Scratch that... every Christmas tree, AND every house.

Dinner parties are great.

Going to Holiday parties with Dirty Santa-fun. Going to 6 Holiday Parties with Dirty Santa-not fun. I can only take in so much junk before knockin' the lights out of some unsuspecting soul at the Dollar Tree.

Benny reminds us a little of Manny from Modern Family. We like to imagine that if he could take on a human persona, that would be it. We have yet to figure out who Ruthie is. Any opinions/thoughts/musings on that would be greatly appreciated. :) That is, if you can gather some bits of personality from photos or short visits.

If we like you, you'll be getting our Christmas card. If you don't, we ran out of stamps. But we still like you. #dontcry

Thanks for reading... posting some pictures of Queen&King Lear from a fun photo shoot we had with J Hodges Photography soon! :) Yaay. (and please disregard the bags under our eyes...it was a 730am activity)
By the time my idiot self realized what was frequenting my news feed, it was too late to start my own list.

So, in honor of November and having previously done nothing but eat TURKEY as far as giving thanks... here goes: the learylog list of things to be thankful for.

1. Very dramatic women in my family to keep things interesting.
2. Videos on you tube and AFV for the constant entertainment.
3. Mexican food (i.e. the white cheese)
4. Sunglasses. Nobody likes crows-feet.
5. White fudge covered Oreos.
6. Ben & Jerry's NY Super Fudge Chunk
7. Speaking of chocolate... chocolate.
8. A big ole warm fluffy bed.
9. Clothes to cover our secrets. Clothes in general.
10. A dishwasher.
11. Michael being happy at his job - flyin' airplanes, nbd. Emily being happy at hers. (free massages, what up!)
12. Healthy-ness. Even though we don't work out much, or run places... we eat our veggies, and drink airborne. We could be better, I'll admit... but now its too cold to take a jog. (this kind a talk is for new years)
13. Glitter.
14. My dogs. Where I can be by myself - but never be alone. :) #bff
15. Snazzylime - creativity, what being a business starter upper has taught me, who I've met in the process, my samples, paper, and more!
16. Hugs.
17. Great friends from home, great friends in OKC.
18. Texting abbreviations. (lol - bff - nbd!!!)
19. Books. Books to movies. Movies.
20. All our senses. (see, hear, touch, smell, and taste [esp taste])
21. Air conditioning. hello.
22. Disney.
23. Having great memories from each of our pasts.
24. Education, freedom, America, opportunities.
25. Rock n' Roll.
26. Socks.
27. The internet (Pinterest) / email / Facebook. (I STILL check FB 5x a day. Just like college days.)
28. Shoes. omgosh, Shoes. omgosh, Shoes.
29. Hot water.
30. A great church. A great God. And a great life he's blessed us with.

We really do have many things to be thankful for - I could go on and on. #sigh
This was the BIG 27 for ol' Mike. He says he feels the same... BUT in the same day... I've noticed his driving got worse (a couple u-ies, hit 2 objects in the road, and missed a turn) plus, he almost opted out of a party for the sake of being too tired. He's really showing his age. Phew.

Here is what we did in celebration...

Friday: Michael & I ordered KFC, and he had the long-time coveted mashed potato bowl! We opened presents, and made this cookie cake! We sung Happy Birthday with all 27 candles (some of which were the trick ones, and while trying to stop them from waxing the entire cake, after he blew em out, I started pulling and stacking... oops. They started lighting in my hand- LOL!!!) I guess that was my payment for making this joke: "Michael, I don't think we don't even need the lights on in the house with this many candles lit!" hehe.
Saturday: Michael got the car he's always wanted on his actual birthday (we got a great deal-even tho we are poor, we couldn't pass it up!) Michael had been praying for various specs on this car for QUITE some time and his prayers were answered! Not only his specs... but better ones. Close to our house. Low miles. in our low price range. and all the little extras he wanted! Plus, heated seats for the wife. :) God is good. (and here he is hugging little cobalt)
Saturday #2: We went to a SS party where Michael (much to his chagrin) stood atop a large stone and was serenaded by our friends over s'mores and coca-cola. Perfect.

Like I said in my last dog birthday blog... we are those people who treat therir dogs as humans, until we as a couple make more humans. :) So... here it is, yet another birthday for the Roopster.
I made her a hat as well... I thought it appropriate to make it a princess hat. We put two candles in her Ceaser Treat, and sang her the Happy Birthday Song! She did quite well, but when we couldn't get JUST the right picture we had to wipe up the drool. Isn't she lovely?

Love my puffies.
And by ONE, I mean ONE. I didn't really delve into textbooks, or more than skim anything I was given. I liked college, not school. But hey, B's are good. ;) That ONE... I read cover to cover. That book was: "Angels and Demons" I had to read it and do a book report of sorts. It was awesome.

I just finished "The Help" and I'm planning on renting the movie from Blockbuster soon, or going to see it at the cheap show if its still there. I can only imagine how clean my house would be if I had "help." #sittingwaitingwishing. #nevergonnahappen.
Wanted to share this interesting article with you - It's about a group of college students in Ohio trying to end racially insensitive Halloween costumes this year. Pretty interesting take on Halloween! And a great Slogan - "We are a culture, not a costume."
And check out the articles ABC News, & CBC NEWS.

This is ONE of the side tables I'm working with. (I have 2) I'm fishing for some creative color choices, and/or ideas for these. Isn't it cute?! I see such potential. Even cuter for $45 bucks for the pair. (auction) We really need to find an auction here in Oklahoma... I can't wait to once again wave my little white flag (or paddle) in solid NON SURRENDER!
Any cute photos you have found online or from diggin deep in your creative minds would be nice too. I'm planning to start in January with the refinish. Looking forward to hearing your ideas. :) I also snagged these four lovelies (below) a couple weekends ago at a garage sale in my neighborhood. AWESOME. A little leather conditioner is all they need. :) They are now in my kitchen.

Labor day weekend - Aunt Deb came to visit from St. Louis. We had bunches of fun. Girl time, relaxing, shoppin' a little, eatin' a lot, (and by a lot, I mean its highly probable that I never went a minute without chewing something) and I took her to see Shakespeare in the park! (I think I had mentioned this before, but Michael met one of the actors from the show at church the day after we had gone on our stay-cation... and I met him at Starbucks! He happily served me my chai latte-extra chai)

Weekend of my b-day [SEPT 19] - My parents, sister and her man came to visit from St. Louis. Not to mention the adorable face of my nephew, Warner. I had sidewalk chalk, glow stick bracelets, sparklers, and the Oklahoma State Fair waiting for him. We had such a great time! On Sunday I had to go to a meeting at work, and I was gone about 2 hours, and when I came home I was greeted with pink balloons ALL over my living room floor, a princess pinata, a birthday cake, presents, and a lovely dinner! (birthdays are a big deal at the Burns & Leary houses) SURPRISE!!! Twas awesome. What was NOT awesome was that my memory card got fried and I lost almost all pics from the weekend. At least I have some on Michael's phone :(

Last weekend / 1st days of October - In-Laws came to visit from OHIO! They drove, which is quite a feat, and brought me my end tables (that I bought for dirt cheap at an auction there in March) They will go perfectly in the guest room, I will be posting a picture for inspiration soon. :) We did some shopping, ate lots o'food, explored downtown, and showed them around other parts of OKC! Such a great time with the in-laws. I'm looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks for Michael's sisters wedding!
Maybe its the smell of pencil shavings or new friends, (not the smell of new friends, but HAVING the potential of new friends) new tennishoes, or jackets.... I'm not sure. But I love it. I cant wait til my future kiddos have a school supply list and I get to buy notebooks and binders and pencil boxes.
one day, while i was doing my business I was browsing.
i was flipping through a hallmark magazine.
i found this:

it says,
"Ten Things We Love About Fall"

It's the perfect time to celebrate the end of swimsuit season with a big cookie.

Oh look...the hills got all dressed up.

It's OK to shave your legs every other day.

Snugglier pants then corduroys have yet to be invented.

Pumpkin is some sort of vegetable, right? So, that makes pumpkin pie health food, right?

Listen. Do you hear that? That's the sound of quiet after the kids go back to school.

Touch football makes everyone feel like an athlete.

The Christmas catalogs are here! Time for the credit cards to come out of hibernation.

Half of a powdered donut is just the right size to dunk in a mug of coffee. Science triumphs again!

Only you know that your toenails are polished in your very favorite color." -Bill Gray

isn't it great?
this magazine was from 2004.
that was before i graduated HS.
apparently there was something in this magazine i wanted to save.
i will keep it still.
and we need to update the magazines in the basket.
ah, fall.
this weather makes me want to take up a hobby.
or do more crafty things. #thankyoupintrest
maybe i will take up underwater basket weaving.
or something else. Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7926142519222112143.post-70474147696319492812011-10-06T11:39:00.000-07:002011-10-06T11:39:08.216-07:00Dining OutNo, this is not a post about going out to eat... although we do that a lot.

Michael and I had to go to a Military event the other Saturday night, CALLED the "Dining Out." Got to see a lot of the other wives that I hadn't seen in a while (even though I'm on the board - i still feel out of the loop sometimes) and I got to get all dressed up again. It was at the Petroleum Club in OKC, apperently its pretty exclusive. Who knew. None the less . . . Good salad, good meat, good dessert, good coffee, and good friends. yaay. :) Here are some photos.
